Oh silly White people!

Once again, we see how some White people just don't get it. The blind stupidity of it all continues to astound me.

By now you've likely seen the cartoon printed by the NY Post today. Attempting to cash in on the humor of a grown gorilla who was someone's twisted idea of a "pet" finally going along with nature and attacking to the point of nearly murdering a human being before having to be killed itself.

How can any white person, in 2009, look at this cartoon and NOT think that it may be offensive and be considered racist? Long gone are the days when it was ok to compare a Black person to a gorilla/monkey/primate.

Maybe the artist didn't mean to be racist. Maybe the editor who allowed it to be printed didn't intend it to be racist.

But c'mon, white people. What the hell are you thinking?

  1. That's right Ralph. It's only okay to show a white president as a chimpanzee like was done over the past eight years by cartoonists. You tell 'em!

  2. Dave, please tell me you are defending Junior and not saying it's ok to use monkeys when making fun of blacks. ANY Black person. President or not. Whether it's a Black person I like or not.

Want to make fun of Obama? Use a donkey. It's got political undertones (Dems=Donkey, GOP=Elephant) and Obama's got big ears like a donkey. Call him a jack-ass while you're at it. I have no problem with that. (In fact, give me credit for such an idea the first time you see it in a political satire.) Making fun of our leaders without being beheaded is what makes our country great.

But for heaven's sake, after Whites have oppressed Blacks every way they can dream up for over 200 years, you can NOT compare a Black person to an ape. You just can't. Not Obama, not Warren Sapp, not Mike Tyson, not anyone of color no matter how low their IQ might be. I don't care if the Black janitor at Wassilla Jr. High School wrote the stimulus bill. You can't call him a monkey and not realize the racist overtones.

The fact that Whites are still so f**king ignorant to that fact is what outrages me.

  3. I must admit that when I first saw the cartoon, the impression I had was that the stimulus package was written by a Monkey. OK fine. I didn't think it was funny but I didn't think it was racist since It didn't cross my mind that the monkey would be Obama because Obama is black, and monkeys are, monkeys are.... black? I thought they were hairy. (Dave's right. Bush looked more like a Chimp than Obama does. Is that what you were saying Dave?)

At some point the ridiculous notion that a black person is a monkey will have to die. It died in my mind but apparently it has not died in the minds of many. Especially the many blacks who are outraged over this. The cartoon was in bad taste for many reason. There's no need to show an animal with bullet holes or really anything depicting a cartoon shooting in the newspaper. If we were as sensitive to race and as easily offended as it seems, then how did he get elected in the first place?

To me, this is another chance for the Sharpton's of the world to make a stink. He was basically ignored during the political process this time around, but he gets his chance now.

It's time to move on. Monkeys can be white Presidents. Monkeys can be half-white Presidents too. One day there will be a stupid cartoon that depicts a black President as a dumb ape and no one will care. That's when we'll know that we've moved on.
